Saturday March 8th 2025 marks International Women’s Day and this year at Summize we are drawing focus on the theme: Accelerate Action.

We sat down with our Chief Financial Officer Rachel Cunliffe to learn more about her career, her experiences what Accelerate Action means to her.

Hear from Rachel

Can you describe your current role and what you enjoy most about it?

I am responsible for financial and people functions, developing long term financial & people strategies to drive business growth whilst optimizing operational efficiency.

Finance is integral to the business, influencing all departments by providing insights for strategic decision-making. I enjoy the impact of my role, collaborating with department leaders to provide support, guidance, and drive key business decisions.

Creating an inclusive and positive working environment is a key part of the role and important to me, ensuring people are engaged, aligned with business goals, and empowered to contribute to success.

What does the theme #AccelerateAction mean to you personally?

At the current pace, achieving full gender parity could take until 2158 - five generations from now! I am committed to fostering career advancement and female leadership in the industry and have always surrounded myself with mentors who provide guidance and encouragement.

I've actively supported and invested in a female-led CEO business, and in previous ventures, once we entered large recruitment phases, we implemented initiatives with local universities and recruitment partners to prioritize women in tech. As part of the NOVA community, a senior female leader network, I am dedicated to offering support and advice to empower women in the industry.

What initially drew you to the industry and to your current role?

I have over 20 years of experience in the tech industry and thrive in fast-paced, innovative environments. Having managed legal teams and experienced the challenges of not having a Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) solution first hand, I recognize the software's immense potential and market opportunity. The management team was a key factor in my decision to join, as I have previously worked with them at Avecto and AppSense - both successful, high-growth businesses.

Our strong working relationship and shared understanding of what it takes to build successful international companies position us for success.

What key skills or experiences have been most important in advancing your career?

Resilience and confidence are essential. I embrace first-time projects as challenges and learning opportunities, understanding that not having all the answers is part of the process. A willingness to learn, ask questions, and seek guidance from colleagues and mentors is key to driving success. My consultative approach fosters collaboration and builds trust.

My expertise includes growth strategies for high-growth businesses, establishing financial structures, and driving expansion in the USA and Europe, I have led multiple growth equity investments and M&A initiatives from a financial perspective.

What advice would you give to women considering a career in technology?

Connecting with mentors, joining tech communities, and participating in events are essential. Platforms like LinkedIn and Women in Tech organizations offer valuable networking opportunities.

At this stage in my career, I prioritize researching the business, technology, market, and, just as importantly, the company culture. I will only choose a workplace where I am valued, can contribute meaningfully, and am trusted and supported by my peers. Advocate for yourself and do not let imposter syndrome hold you back your skills and contributions are critical to the success of the business.

Happy International Women's Day to our brilliant customers, colleagues, and friends!
